Who We Are

The Newington School Supporters are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to:

Provide a forum to enrich, support and facilitate communication and interaction between parents, teachers, and administrators.

We are a group of parents, teachers and school staff. Our goals are to insure good communication within the Newington Public School community and to facilitate and encourage opportunities for enrichment of our student’s education. This is accomplished in a variety of ways such as classroom enhancements and specialized science and arts programs to enrich and support the curriculum at the Newington Public School.

How We Do It

Like many schools, we reach our goals through fundraising. Fundraising at a small school can be difficult. Most school fundraising programs involve students and parents buying or selling items or food from catalogs. With a limited number of families these fundraisers prove difficult as we cannot always meet minimum order requirements that these fundraising companies set for their programs. The Fox Point Sunset Road Race has become our single largest fundraiser for the Newington Public School. Held in September, this race has provided funding for the Newington Public School's for over 20 years. Support of the annual Fox Point Sunset Road Race is integral to support our goal of facilitating and encouraging opportunities for enrichment.

Why We Fundraise

Here are some examples...

March Maker Madness

Every year in March, each student at Newington Public School (NPS) has a chance to participate in March Maker Madness.  NPS teachers and staff create specialty subject areas where students are given the opportunity to get out of the classroom and learn by doing.

From our Principal Latchaw:

“Linked to the principles of Project Based Learning, wrapping skills into authentic experiences, March Maker Madness embodies the essence of "messy learning." The thought that learning/teaching doesn’t have to be a set of clear definitive outcomes. It is an environment where experimentation, failure, and creativity are not only accepted but celebrated as integral components of the learning process. Through this approach, students and staff witness first-hand the transformative power of authentic, engaging, and meaningful learning.”

Over the years, students were able to select from subjects such as: Loud Art, Crochet, Science Experiments, Is It Cake, 3D Printing, Trebuchet Making, Stop Motion Animation, Ski Chairs, Survival Skills and Adventures with Mr Latchaw where students learned about oystering, fly fishing, and mountain biking.
